Tombstones as Public Art

Photographer Daniel Barlow proposes that gravestones are a fascinating example of self-expression in public spaces. New technology has opened up greater possibility of free expression (which some people choose to use to celebrate their favorite brands, as you can see in the picture of the Budweiser tombstone in the article), but there is also a storied history of imagery on grave markers.

An exhibit at the Vermont History Museum titledĀ "Green Mountain Graveyards: Vermont cemetery artwork and the search for meaning in death" showcases Barlow's photographs of creepy crypts and spooky tombs.
