Steel Sculpors: California Has A Deal For You

News comes that the Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee in the San Francisco Bay Area is making scrap metal from the retired length of the Bay Bridge available to artists. 300 tons of it, in fact, as long as the price tag for salvaging the steel doesn't go over $2.2 million. The nearby Oakland Museum of Art will be in charge of choosing the artists to use the old metal, after the toxic lead paint is removed.

Nearby American Steel Studios founder Karen Cusolito advocated for the steel to be made available to artists (Oakland's metal sculpting scene is very active, thanks to pioneering efforts from The Crucible).
